TORONTO (August 14, 2015) – For the first time ever, HBO Canada is offering non-subscribers the opportunity to sample an entire season of one of pay television’s most critically acclaimed, buzz-worthy series. In line with HBO and CINEMAX in the US, HBO Canada is making the entire 10-episode first season of Emmy®-nominated drama series THE KNICK available free-of-charge on TMN GO and via the on demand platforms of participating television providers across the country. THE KNICK, from Oscar®-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) and starring Clive Owen (Closer) in his Golden Globe® nominated performance, follows a brilliant surgeon who pushes the boundaries of medicine, morality, and race relations in 1900 at a downtown NYC hospital. The free sampling of Season 1 begins today and is available for 10 weeks, on TMN GO and with participating television providers, leading into the series’ Season 2 premiere on Friday, October 16 on HBO Canada.

Recently nominated for five Emmy awards, including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Steven Soderbergh), THE KNICK is helmed by Soderbergh and stars Clive Owen as the brilliant but emotionally tortured Dr. John W. Thackery. The upcoming second season, set in 1901, finds the staff of the Knick in turmoil as they prepare for the hospital to be shuttered in favour of a new building uptown. In this world of corruption, invention and progress, everyone is searching for the new path that will help him or her survive. Whether it’s a path toward justice, freedom, love or just plain survival, nothing comes easily. The creators and writing team of Jack Amiel and Michael Begler serve as executive producers along with Gregory Jacobs, Soderbergh, Michael Sugar, and Clive Owen.
In Eastern Canada, Season 1 of THE KNICK will be available on TMN GO and for free on Bell FIBE, Rogers, Cogeco, Eastlink, Videotron, and Source set-top box OnDemand platforms.
In Western Canada, Season 1 of The Knick will be available for free on HBO Canada On Demand with participating television providers.
