HBO Canada Programming Leads the 2015 Emmy® Awards

HBO owns quality television.” – John Doyle, Globe and Mail TORONTO (September 21, 2015) – It was a headline-making night for HBO at the 67^th PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS: the dragons of Westeros soared; a vice president (or maybe president) honoured audiences with her honoured presence; premium, first-class storytelling took centre stage; and the network won the most Emmys in its history. First-run series, films, documentaries, and specials available in Canada exclusively on HBO Canada received a total of 43 Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy Awards, with HBO’s GAME OF THRONES, VEEP and OLIVE KITTERIDGE leading the way. HBO’s 43 wins – across multiple categories including Drama Series, Comedy Series, Limited Series, Television Movie, Documentary and more – are the most in its history and one shy of tying the all-time record for a single network. In Eastern Canada, Emmy-winning HBO programming, including all five seasons of GAME OF THRONES, all four seasons of VEEP, and OLIVE KITTERIDGE, is currently available on TMN GO, TMN OnDemand, and HBO Canada OnDemand. In Western Canada, Emmy-nominated programming is available on the go with Shaw Go Movie Central app, Bell TV app, Telus Optik on the go, and HBO Canada On Demand. For the 14^th year in a row, HBO won the most Emmys of any network, with GAME OF THRONES taking a history-making 12 awards, the most of any series in a single year. The epic fantasy, which enters its sixth season in 2016 as the most-watched series in Canadian Pay and Specialty TV history, took home the most prominent award of the night: Outstanding Drama Series. Other wins include: Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Peter Dinklage); Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (David Benioff, D.B. Weiss); Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (David Nutter); and a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series for Canada’s Paula Fairfield. HBO’s comedy series VEEP booked another year in office with five awards, including its first golden statue for Outstanding Comedy Series. Other key wins include: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Julia Louis-Dreyfus); Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Tony Hale); and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, Tony Roche). HBO’s critically acclaimed, powerful miniseries OLIVE KITTERIDGE garnered eight awards, sweeping all major categories it was nominated in including: Outstanding Limited Series; Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Frances McDormand); Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie (Richard Jenkins);  and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie (Bill Murray).
