Montreal, March 31, 2015—As an official Major League Baseball (MLB) broadcaster, RDS will offer viewers almost 80 top matchups on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays during the 2015 regular season. The games will be broadcast on RDS and RDS2.
Many major-league players have changed teams over the past few months, and the opening weeks of the regular season will give fans a better idea of which squads have enough strength in depth to make it all the way to the Fall Classic this October. In the National League, the teams to watch are the Nationals, Dodgers and Cubs. Meanwhile, over in the American League, the contenders include the Mariners, Angels and Red Sox—who spent over $250 million during the off-season, signing Pablo Sandoval, Hanley Ramirez and Rusney Castillo to big-money deals.
RDS will lead off its baseball coverage by presenting the opening game of the 2015 season between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs on Sunday, April 5, at 8 p.m. ET.
The RDS schedule includes three other games from the first week of regular- season action. First, the Cleveland Indians face the Houston Astros on Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. ET. Then, the Boston Red Sox take on the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. ET. Finally, on Sunday, April 12, at 8 p.m. ET, the New York Yankees host their old rivals, the Boston Red Sox (see broadcast schedule below).
Marc Griffin and Alain Usereau will handle the play-by-play and analysis for all MLB games broadcast on RDS this season.
Catch the Big Events on RDS
In addition to regular-season games, RDS will broadcast the HOME RUN DERBY and 86th ALL-STAR GAME, which will be held at Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds, on July 13 and 14. The 2015 major-league season will end in October, with RDS presenting one wild-card playoff, two Division Series, one League Championship Series and, last but not least, the prestigious World Series.
Special Broadcast: 2015 Season Preview
RDS will present a 60-minute special broadcast featuring a primer for the 2015 major-league season. Experts Marc Griffin, Alain Usereau and Alex Agostino will analyze the outlook for each division and identify players to keep an eye on this year. How will the Yankees fare following Derek Jeter’s retirement? Can Russell Martin lead the Blue Jays to a first post-season appearance since 1993? Is the Nationals’ starting rotation the best ever? Will the Giants manage to win a fourth World Series in six years? Our experts will give their opinions this Saturday at 9 p.m. ET.
To give fans a chance to join in the conversation, a live web chat will be held with Marc Griffin on the RDS Facebook page. The session starts at 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 2.
New Game: La Séquence gagnante MLB
This season, online fans are invited to take part in a new game, LA SÉQUENCE GAGNANTE MLB (“MLB Winning Streak”). Each day, participants have to choose a team that will win its game that day and try to build a winning streak. At the end of the regular season, the player who achieved the longest winning streak during the year will be the champion.
RDS.ca also offers online fans an entire section devoted to MLB baseball. This notably includes columns by Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin and Marc Griffin. The site brings together news, videos and stats on all MLB teams. Fans can also trust the RDS GO app to keep them up to date with the latest baseball developments at all times.
Finally, the news show SPORTS 30 will provide game highlights and all key MLB-related news throughout the season.
