Rallying together to support their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, iHeartRadio Canada stations across western Canada continue to launch helpful initiatives and campaigns that thank and support frontline workers and local businesses.
Here are some of the initiatives iHeartRadio Canada stations are taking to support communities in western Canada:
British Columbia
- Encouraging listeners to buy local, iHeartRadio stations across British Columbia are sharing where people can find some of their favourite local companies on iHeartRadio.ca. Participating stations include 102.3 The Bear, 98.5 Sun FM, 101.5 The Bear, 106.3 EZ Rock, AM 1150, EZ Rock Kelowna, 99.9 Virgin Radio Kelowna, 97.7 EZ Rock , EZ Rock Kootenays , EZ Rock Nelson, EZ Rock Osoyoos, EZ Rock 800 AM Penticton, 97.1 Sun FM, 99.1 EZ Rock, 106.1 EZ Rock, 91.5 EZ Rock, 98.5 EZ Rock , Pure Country Radio, EZ Rock 590 AM, 94.5 Virgin Radio, 103.5 QMFM, TSN 1040, and 105.7 Sun FM.
- CFAX 1070 also launched the Win and Shop Local contest, asking listeners to choose from a list of local businesses and tell the CFAX team why it’s their favourite. The weekly winner receives a shout-out for their favourite spot and a $100 gift card to spend when they reopen.
- 107.3 Virgin Radio celebrates listeners birthday’s virtually with the Virgin Radio Virtual Birthday contest, where listeners are invited to sign themselves and their friends up to receive a birthday wish from the Virgin Radio team and a gift-card from a great local business.
- Penticton’s EZ Rock 800 AM and 97.1 Sun FM launched Front Door Food Drive in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank, sponsored by Back Door Winery.
- Nightly at 7 p.m., Virgin Radio and QMFM air 20 seconds of applause to join the city in saluting front-line healthcare workers across British Columbia.
Alberta
- Virgin, The Bear, and CTV Edmonton launched the online fundraiser, Feed Your Friends for the Edmonton Foodbank, with a goal of raising $10,000. The stations surpassed this goal early on when Canadian celebrities such as Ryan Reynolds, Nathan Fillion, and Darnell Nurse made donations and helped spread the word through social media.
- Calgary’s 98.5 Virgin Radio, CJAY 92 ROCKS, Funny 1060 also encourages listeners to buy local with webpages on iHeartRadio.ca that share local businesses that are still open amidst the pandemic.
- CJAY MORNINGS WITH JESSE & JD collaborate with local food businesses and personally deliver lunch to healthcare workers at the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic for #CJAYTHEDISHES
Manitoba
- Pure Country 101, 96.1 BOB FM, Virgin Radio 103.1, and 99.9 BOB FM show they care about local businesses by sharing open businesses on their iHeartRadio.ca webpages.
- Pure Country 101, 96.1 BOB FM promote United Way Brandon’s Local Love in a Global Crisis campaign on iHeartRadio.ca.
- Making working from home a little easier, Brandon’s Pure Country 101 and 96.1 BOB FM team up with The Source for the Stay Connected contest, offering up a Google Home SMART Speaker every Monday morning.
Winnipeg
- THE ACE BURPEE SHOW on 103.1 Virgin Radio is recognizing the outstanding people that are going above and beyond to help their community with the Everyday Heroes campaign, inviting viewers to recognize their community heroes for a shout-out on-air.
- 103.1 Virgin Radio and 99.9 BOB FM have launched the Harvest Hero campaign, helping to provide food to people in need in their community through Winnipeg Harvest.
- 103.1 Virgin Radio and 99.9 BOB FM support the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba as it continues its commitment to ‘Caring For Kids.’ Details are available on the stations’ iHeartRadio.ca webpages.
Saskatchewan
- Pure Country 92.7 is raising funds and awareness for Family Services Regina, who deal with domestic abuse situations, which are on the rise with families now spending time in close quarters
- Pure Country 92.7 is also promoting the support local campaign, providing a list of local businesses that remain open on iHeartRadio.ca
