Ian Mathieson Named CTV Citizen of the Year for Promoting Cultural Diversity and Fighting Racial Discrimination

EDMONTON (Aug. 5, 2013) – CTV Edmonton is proud to present the third annual Citizen of the Year Award to Ian Mathieson, who serves as a Consultant for Edmonton’s Centre for Race and Culture and its consulting arm CRC Consulting. CTV Morning Live Co-Host, Stacey Brotzel, will present the award at the Servus Heritage Festival (Hawrelak Park, 9930 Groat Road) today at 11:30 a.m. during the Oath of Citizenship ceremony. The CTV Citizen of the Year award is given to an exceptional individual who demonstrates a long-term commitment to cultural diversity.

Mathieson has guided more than 500 interactive workshops on cultural competency, racial equity, inclusive communities, and organizational equity through the Centre for Race and Culture. In the same role, Mathieson also worked as a Youth Program Coordinator, focusing on multicultural education and peer development. He also spent time collaborating with immigrants and diverse communities, school districts, and settlement agencies. Mathieson is committed to promoting inclusion, equity, and intercultural understanding.

With a diverse background that includes working with law enforcement, educational boards, health care institutions, community NGOs, and the private sector, Mathieson is a committed volunteer with Next Up, Youth Leadership and the Alberta Hate Crimes Committee.
