HALIFAX (June 1, 2022) – This year CTV Atlantic delivers expanded coverage of the 38th IWK TELETHON FOR CHILDREN to viewers across the region. The weekend begins with a two-hour musical special, A TELETHON TRIBUTE TO YOUR IWK, airing Saturday, June 4 at 7 p.m. AT, leading into the telethon broadcast, airing Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. AT. This year’s special TELETHON TRIBUTE honours the staff and teams at IWK Health who continue to provide world-class care amid ongoing challenges throughout the pandemic. The tribute show includes Maritime performers David Myles, Matt Andersen, Owen O’Sound Lee, Christina Martin, Jenn Grant and The Gilberts, Mahalia Smith, Carleton Stone, Kim Dunn, and DeeDee Austin. On Sunday, June 5, CTV Atlantic brings Maritimers the traditional IWK TELETHON FOR CHILDREN broadcast, featuring stories of patients and families who have received life-saving care at the IWK. The IWK TELETHON FOR CHILDREN is the IWK’s largest annual fundraiser, supporting the organization’s most urgent priority needs, including up-to-date equipment, advanced technology, research, and improved facilities. “The IWK is a fixture in our community and the care and passion that each and every member of this team showcases is truly something to be celebrated,” said Jennifer Gillivan, President and CEO of the IWK Foundation. “The past two years have demonstrated the team’s unwavering commitment to the care of our Maritime patients and families. They have been by our side every step of the way. We are so grateful and extremely proud to be able to recognize them during our annual Telethon.” “It’s an honour for us to share the stories of Maritime families who understand first-hand how the IWK changes lives,” said Trent McGrath, General Manager, CTV Atlantic. “We take pride in the partnership we have with the IWK Foundation, to not only help raise money, but also to showcase the dedicated teams of people who work at IWK Health.” Viewers will see many familiar faces from CTV Atlantic on the 2022 IWK TELETHON FOR CHILDREN, including CTV NEWS AT SIX Chief Anchor Todd Battis; CTV NEWS AT FIVE hosts Jayson Baxter and Maria Panopalis; CTV NEWS AT FIVE entertainment reporter Katie Kelly, and CTV MORNING LIVE ATLANTIC’s Ana Almeida. Long-time telethon host and CTV Atlantic special correspondent Steve Murphy also returns in a special role. CTV Atlantic hosts the telethon broadcast from the station’s Halifax studios, with virtual guests joining from all over the region – including donors, IWK patients and families, and IWK Health team members.
