Competition to be executed on large format Digital Superboards in three major markets in Canada
Astral, a division of Bell Media, has launched the ninth annual Carte Blanche advertising competition in Québec, Toronto, and Western Canada (Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver). Once again this year, entrants will create for large format Digital Superboards.
Participants in Carte Blanche have until April 16, 2018 to create an original, digital out-of-home ad for one of their agency’s clients and submit it to CarteBlancheforCreatives.ca. There’s no brief, so creative teams have “carte blanche” to come up with their concept.
The Carte Blanche competition is supported by a digital and social media advertising campaign created by lg2. This year’s idea emphasizes that “Everybody is a nobody” – no matter who you are, senior or junior, from a big or small agency, you are a nobody and your entry is anonymous.
“This year, lg2 has introduced a hint of humor into the competition by introducing us to The Trucker’s Choice award,” said Michael Alexandor, Vice-President Marketing and Innovation, Bell Media. “Who better to award this special prize than people who spend most of their days passing by all types of billboards? No doubt, truckers have a fresh outlook on out-of-home advertising. A jury of three, real-life truck drivers (one per market) will choose their favourite entry from all the concepts received in each market to be awarded a special prize.”
A video explaining the concept and the new features of the ninth edition of the competition is also available on the revamped Carte Blanche website, along with a client-oriented video to further explain the competition.
Also, for the first time in the creative competition’s nine-year history, a jury of six prominent creative directors will determine the Top 25 shortlist as well as the winners in each of the three markets.
Each member of the winning creative team is awarded a trip to the prestigious International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, as well as a $50,000 Astral advertising campaign for their client, executing the winning concept.

Carte Blanche invites creative teams from Canadian agencies to execute an idea for the client of their choice, for a chance to win one of three trips to the Cannes Festival of Creativity in June, as well as a $50,000 Astral campaign for the winning execution.
