“Mike and Dave are veteran broadcasters and local icons with strong roots in this community, and we look forward to having viewers discover the unique chemistry and energy they bring to CTV News at Six,” said Les Staff, News Director, CTV British Columbia. “With more than six decades of broadcast experience between them, Mike and Dave are more than familiar faces – they are an integral part of the narrative and tradition in this province. We welcome Mike and Dave to CTV News, and are delighted to unite viewers with these gifted storytellers.”
Born in New York City, McCardell started his reporting career with powerhouse tabloid the New York Daily News as a Police Reporter, following a tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force. Reading about Vancouver in National Geographic, McCardell made the choice to relocate his family to this safe and stunning province, and never looked back. After three years as a Crime Reporter with the Vancouver Sun, McCardell moved to Global BC (BCTV) where he spent the next 37 years telling uplifting local stories before joining CTV.
Award-winning Canadian television journalist Gerry has worked for every major national broadcaster during his more than 35 years in the industry. A graduate of the Journalism program at University of Western Ontario (now Western University) in his hometown of London, ON, he covered the general assignment beats for CBC and CTV affiliates before moving his family to Vancouver in 1985. He spent more than two decades producing feature stories, comedy specials and documentaries for CKVU-TV in Vancouver. His efforts at uncovering the hidden tales along British Columbia’s back roads have netted more than a dozen provincial, national and international awards for excellence in broadcasting. In the Spring of 2013, Gerry was recognized with an Edward R. Murrow award for Writing.
