TORONTO (February 20, 2014) – It’s springtime in the Alberta Oil Field. The access roads have turned into rivers of mud and the drilling has stopped, for now. With time on their hands and a spirit of adventure, the Kings of the Canadian North are on the move. An original Canadian eight-part series by Montreal’s Pixcom Productions, LICENCE TO DRILL is back for Season 4 – but with a southern-style twist: Discovery presents LICENCE TO DRILL: LOUISIANA, premiering Tuesday, March 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Oil riggers Cody Wilson, Kelly Pelsma, Mike Bencz, and Ryan “Hutch” Hutchinson have landed an off-season job in Louisiana. Trading frostbite for sunstroke, and hockey for baseball, these four Canadian rig hands discover that down south, it’s a whole new ball game, y’all!

Cody Wilson, Kelly Pelsma, Mike Bencz, Ryan “Hutch” Hutchinson head south for LICENCE TO DRILL: LOUISIANA, premiering March 18 on Discovery
These familiar faces are in for some fresh challenges. It’s a life-changing opportunity for Canadian riggers Cody Wilson, Kelly Pelsma, Mike Bencz, and Ryan “Hutch” Hutchinson, and there’s a lot for these guys to learn – and to share – about life on a rig. In Louisiana, the work site is less regulated than what the guys are used to in Alberta, the pace is faster, the equipment is older, and the heat is relentless – the learning curve is steep, and these boys are in for one tough ride.
Highlights from the first episodes of LICENCE TO DRILL: LOUISIANA include:
LICENCE TO DRILL: LOUISIANA – “Canuck Worms”
Tues., March 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Wilson, Pelsma, Bencz, and Hutchison are about to have the adventure of a lifetime. It’s Spring Break, and they’ve flown thousands of kilometers – from Alberta to Louisiana – for a short-term drilling gig with the Justiss Oil Company. This first encounter with the good ‘ole boy riggers in the south is bone shaking, mud splattered, and – of course – oil drenched. A friendly culture clash revs up on the drill site and hits high gear when the Canadians crash the wildest party in the south.
LICENCE TO DRILL: LOUISIANA – “Payin’ Dues”
Tues., March 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Wilson and Bencz land the night shift on the Renegade rig. Wilson takes his best shot at the drilling controls, and when the mud starts flying on the rig floor, Bencz goes up to try his hand at slinging pipe. Pelsma and Hutchison aren’t impressed: as far as they’re concerned, there’s nothing more brutal than the day shift, when the drill pipe threatens to melt in the Louisiana sun, and the “suicide line” threatens to make a grown man cry.
LICENCE TO DRILL: LOUISIANA – “Tall Tales”
Tues., April 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Rivalries abound in the oil field – on and off the rig floor! On the Renegade rig, Pelsma wants a shot at the driller job, but the owner’s son is running the controls, and he won’t let go. Hutchison loses face in a chain-spinning contest, but local hot-shot Coy teaches him a few tricks. And down by the Mississippi, Wilson catches a river monster – but if you ask Bencz, he’d say it’s all just a fish tale.
