TORONTO (October 20, 2015) – Last night, viewers across the country overwhelmingly made CTV ELECTION 2015 on CTV their #1 destination for results coverage of Canada’s historic 42nd General Election. A total of 1.5 million viewers watched the 7 p.m. – 2 a.m. ET special on CTV, with more than 10 million viewers watching some part of the coverage. Helmed by CTV NATIONAL NEWS’ Chief Anchor and Senior Editor Lisa LaFlamme, CTV’s robust, live coverage earned its place as the #1 non-sports program of the day in Canada with total viewers and all key demos. CTV ELECTION 2015 achieved a 28% advantage over CBC (1.18 million) and had nearly two and a half times the viewers of Global (625,000).
CTV’s audience peaked at 2.5 million viewers at 10:46 p.m., when CTV ELECTION 2015 welcomed former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney for live commentary and reaction to the election outcome. CTV’s encompassing election coverage – its expansive, in-studio team broadcasting live from CTV’s election desk, in combination with an ace panel of political insiders, strategists, and stakeholders; and CTV News’ team of correspondents deployed to more than 50 locations across Canada to the heart of key battlegrounds in every province – were instrumental in delivering the evening’s audience peak and overall reach.
“Canadians turn to CTV as the country’s most-trusted news team for our thorough, balanced, and accurate reporting and analysis of historic events,” said Wendy Freeman, President, CTV News. “Last night’s historic election special epitomizes the standard that defines CTV News, and we are proud to have served viewers with non-stop election results coverage, complete with powerful and informative storytelling that reflects Canada and Canadians.”
Online, CTVNews.ca’s powerful companion coverage of CTV ELECTION 2015 witnessed triple-digit growth across page views, visits, and video starts, charting increases of 113%, 110%, and 148% over average results respectively. Canadians were plugged in to CTVNews.ca’s new, interactive riding results system, with results available on the web, tablets, and smartphones. CP24.com’s page views and visits demonstrated increases of 86% and 83% respectively over average results, demonstrating explosive growth in video starts throughout the evening, with a staggering 428% increase over average.*
