Highlights This Week
May 13 – HBO Max’s HACKS *Series Premiere*
- Hailed as a “genius dark comedy” by Decider, the HBO Max Original series HACKS premieres with two episodes dropping Thursday, May 13. Starring Jean Smart (MARE OF EASTTOWN, WATCHMEN, DESIGNING WOMEN), the 10-episode series explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance (Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, 25-year-old outcast named Ava (Hannah Einbinder). In addition to Smart and Einbinder, HACKS stars series regular Carl Clemons-Hopkins and recurring guest stars Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Paul W. Downs, Mark Indelicato, Poppy Liu, Johnny Sibilly, Meg Stalter, and Rose Abdoo. HACKS follows a weekly release schedule, with two episodes dropping Thursdays.
MAY 14 – SOUND OF METAL *Movie Premiere*
- Nominated for six Academy Awards® in 2021, including Best Motion Picture and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role SOUND OF METAL begins streaming Friday, May 14. The film, which took home Oscars for Best Sound and Best Editing, follows Ruben (Riz Ahmed) and Lou (Olivia Cooke), two nomad metal musicians traveling gig to gig, on an endless American tour. Their music is loud, frenzied, and passionate, until one day, Ruben is overwhelmed by a severe ringing in his ears, which quickly gives way to deafness and forces Ruben to face his past.
May 14 – STARZ’s STEP UP: HIGH WATER *Season 2 Premiere*
- The story of STEP UP: HIGH WATER continues with Season 2 beginning Friday, May 14. The new season follows the students at High Water, a cutting-edge performing arts school in Atlanta, as they prep for the performance of a lifetime on Sage’s (NE-YO) comeback tour. Drama surrounds the High Water students and teachers in the weeks before opening night, with bigger dance battles mixed with new relationships and family struggles. STEP UP: HIGHWATER follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping Fridays on STARZ.
MAY 16 – STARZ’s RUN THE WORLD *Series Premiere*
- STARZ’s new eight-episode comedy series RUN THE WORLD begins streaming Sunday, May 16. RUN THE WORLD follows a group of smart, funny, and vibrant 30-something Black women – fiercely loyal best friends – who live, work, and play in Harlem. As they strive for world domination, they each navigate career highs and lows, hookups, and heartbreaks that causes them to re-evaluate who they are, and where they are going. The series stars Amber Stevens West (THE CARMICHAEL SHOW), Andrea Bordeaux (NCIS: LOS ANGELES), Bresha Webb(MARLON), and Corbin Reid (VALOR). As was recently announced, Rosie O’Donnell guest stars as Dr. Nancy Josephson, a brash, foul-mouthed therapist that all four best friends discover they are seeing. RUN THE WORLD is created by Leigh Davenport (BOOMERANG, Wendy Williams: The Hot Topic), who also executive produces alongside showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser (BLACK-ISH, DEAR WHITE PEOPLE). RUN THE WORLD follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes available Sundays on STARZ.
