TORONTO (January 16, 2013) – MuchMusic congratulates Epitome Pictures’cast and crew on today’s nominations for Outstanding Drama Series forDEGRASSI and THE L.A. COMPLEX, at the upcoming 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. These latest accolades come hot on the heels of yesterday’s 2013Canadian Screen Awards nominations, where Epitome Pictures secured six nominations for DEGRASSI and two for THE L.A. COMPLEX

Today’s GLAAD nominations mark DEGRASSI’s fifth to date and the first for THEL.A. COMPLEX. The GLAAD Media Awards celebrate the most outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the media and are held in New York (March 16), Los Angeles (April 20), and San Francisco (May 11). DEGRASSI returns with all-new episodes on Friday, Feb. 15at 9 p.m. ET, exclusively on MuchMusic.

In 2012, DEGRASSI celebrated a milestone, airing its 300th episode, and the 400th episode of the entire franchise, making it the longest-running English language drama in Canadian history. DEGRASSI has always been recognized for its compelling storylines and willingness to address controversial issues, winning a Peabody Award in 2011 for “My Body Is a Cage”, where Adam (Jordan Todosey) is revealed to be an FTM transgender.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) amplifies the voice of the LGBT community by empowering real people to share their stories, holding the media accountable for the words and images they present, and helping grassroots organizations communicate effectively.
