OCTOBER 14 – Crave Original Series CANADA’S DRAG RACE *Season 2 Premiere*
- The award-winning Crave Original series CANADA’S DRAG RACE returns on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. ET for its 10-episode sophomore season and follows the journey of 12 fierce and fiery Canadian queens as they compete for the title of “Canada’s Next Drag Superstar.” Each episode tests the queen’s talents, and challenges them to master singing, dancing, acting, impersonations, costume making, and improvisation. Judging CANADA’S DRAG RACE this season is a panel of four homegrown icons, including Brooke Lynn Hytes, Brad Goreski, Amanda Brugel, and Traci Melchor – who are joined every week by a celebrity guest judge. One competitor is eliminated at the end of each episode, until one queen is left standing. New episodes of the one-hour original competition series roll out Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
OCTOBER 14 – HBO Max’s WHAT HAPPENED, BRITTANY MURPHY? *Series Premiere*
- Streaming Thursday, Oct. 14 is the two-part HBO Max Original docuseries WHAT HAPPENED, BRITTANY MURPHY? A captivating actress as effervescent on-screen as she was off, Murphy was a rising star whose movies helped define a generation. But in 2009, Murphy’s untimely passing ended her promising career, while the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death quickly became fodder for speculation and conspiracy theories. Featuring new archival footage and interviews with those closest to her, WHAT HAPPENED, BRITTANY MURPHY? goes beyond the tabloid rumours to examine the impact of Hollywood’s sexism on her struggles, as well as lingering concerns about her relationship with husband Simon Monjack.
OCTOBER 14 – HBO Max’s PHEOBE ROBINSON: SORRY, HARRIET TUBMAN
- The HBO Max Original stand-up comedy special PHEOBE ROBINSON: SORRY, HARRIET TUBMAN debuts Thursday, Oct. 14. After a “truly trash” year, actor, producer, and New York Times bestselling author Phoebe Robinson (HBO’s 2 DOPE QUEENS) is finally out of quarantine and ready to get back onstage. Bringing her signature brand of authentic confessional humour to her first-ever solo stand-up special, Robinson gets real about therapy; interracial dating; reparations; hanging out with Michelle Obama; aging out of watching civil rights movies; and more, in a no-holds-barred hour of comedy that’s both unflinchingly honest – and uniquely hilarious.
OCTOBER 15 – SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW *Movie Premiere*
- It’s officially spooky season and the perfect time to catch the ninth installment of the Saw film franchise, SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW, which drops on Friday, Oct. 15 on STARZ. Working in the shadow of his father Marcus Banks (Samuel L. Jackson), Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner William Schenk (Max Minghella) take charge of an investigation into grisly murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the centre of the killer’s morbid game. All films in the Saw franchise are available to stream on STARZ.
OCTOBER 17 – HBO’s SUCCESSION *Season 3 Premiere*
- The highly anticipated third season of HBO’s Emmy®-winning drama SUCCESSION premieres on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. ET. The critically acclaimed drama, depicting the hyper-wealthy and hyper-depraved Roy family, returns with guns blazing after its bombshell Season 2 ending. Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Logan Roy (Brian Cox) begins the new season in a perilous position. Scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances, tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war. As fractures in the Roy family deepen, this season is rounded out with new players, including Adrien Brody (CHAPELWAITE), and Alexander Skarsgård (BIG LITTLE LIES), both playing billionaire executives, and Sanaa Lathan (THE AFFAIR) as a high-profile lawyer. OCTOBER 17 – STARZ’s HIGHTOWN *Season 2 Premiere*
- The picture-perfect summer on Cape Cod clashes with its off-season reality when the second season of STARZ drama HIGHTOWN premieres Sunday, Oct. 17. Jackie Quinones (Monica Raymund) a hard-partying National Marine Fisheries Service agent with dreams of being a cop, is thrust immediately into the crime wave of deadly car-fentanyl flooding the Cape. This season, Jackie is laser-focused on bringing down drug dealer Frankie Cuevas (Amaury Nolasco), the man she holds responsible for the death of her best friend, Junior. When Frankie’s cousin Jorge (Luis Guzmán) joins his operation, he introduces a new level of violence and chaos. With disgraced officer Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale) off the force and mired in depression, Jackie finds a new partner in Leslie (Tonya Glanz), the only other female on the force. Through it all, Jackie must walk the tightrope of sobriety as she struggles to stay above an ocean of secrets, betrayal and the shame and failure of her past.
OCTOBER 18 – SHOWTIME’s WAKEFIELD *Series Premiere*
- The Australian drama series WAKEFIELD, starring British actor Rudi Dharmalingam, premieres Monday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. ET. The eight-episode psychological drama shines a comedic light on what happens when the sanest individual working in a psych ward begins to lose his grip. Inspired by show creator Kristen Dunphy’s personal experiences, WAKEFIELD follows Nik Katira (Dharmalingam), who after years working as a psych nurse at Wakefield, is exceptionally good at his job. But right now, as his own sanity is slipping, he questions the line between reality and madness. Tackling the complexity of mental illness with humour and heart, WAKEFIELD explores the fine line between sanity and madness, powered by an intriguing psychological mystery.
OCTOBER 19 – THE BODY REMEMBERS WHEN THE WORLD BROKE OPEN and
THE INCREDIBLE 25TH YEAR OF MITZI BEARCLAW
- As the 2021 imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival kicks off on Oct. 19, Crave adds two feature films to its Indigenous Stories Collection: Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Kathleen Hepburn’s, THE BODY REMEMBERS WHEN THE WORLD BROKE OPEN, and Shelley Niro’s THE INCREDIBLE 25TH YEAR OF MITZI BEARCLAW. Premiering with critical-acclaim at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, THE BODY REMEMBERS WHEN THE WORLD BROKE OPEN tells the story of an audacious act of heroism and kindness, as Áila (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers) chooses to console a young woman she finds barefoot and sobbing in the streets. She soon discovers that Rosie (Violet Nelson) has just escaped an assault by her boyfriend. Compelled to take action, Áila brings Rosie into her home, and, over the course of the evening, the two women explore the after-effect of this traumatic event. Taking a comedic look at life on an Indigenous reserve, THE INCREDIBLE 25TH YEAR OF MITZI BEARCLAW, brings viewers into the life of Mitzi Bearclaw, a 24-year-old Indigenous woman whose dream to design cool hats is put on hold when she decides to move back to her isolated reserve to look after her sick mother.
