MUST-WATCH TITLES FOR OCTOBER **Note: Schedule Subject to Change** October 2 – HBO’s WARRIOR *Season 2 Premiere* (10 p.m. ET)
  • WARRIOR is a gritty, action-packed crime drama based on the writings of Bruce Lee. The series is set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th The series follows Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances. After proving his worth as a fighter, Ah Sahm becomes a hatchet man for the Hop Wei, one of Chinatown’s most powerful tongs (Chinese organized crime family). Season 2 follows rival Chinatown tongs, The Hop Wei and the Long Zii, as they fight for dominance amidst the growing anti-Chinese racism that threatens to destroy them all.
October 4 – SHOWTIME’s THE GOOD LORD BIRD *Seven-Part Limited Series Premiere*
  • Ethan Hawke (Dead Poets Society), Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), and Joshua Caleb Johnson (BLACK-ISH) star in a humorous, dramatic, and historical tapestry of Antebellum America based on the award winning novel of the same name by author James McBride. Told from the point of view of “Onion” (Johnson), a newly freed teenager who joins abolitionist John Brown (Hawke) on a holy crusade to end slavery and finds himself part of the famous 1859 raid at Harpers Ferry. The limited series is an adventure equal parts absurd and tragic, spotlighting the ever-changing racial, religious, and gender roles that make up American identity. The series follows a weekly rollout schedule with new episodes dropping on Sundays.
October 8 – HBO Max Original Film CHARM CITY KINGS *Movie Premiere*
  • HBO Max’s CHARM CITY KINGS follows fourteen-year-old Mouse (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) who desperately wants to join The Midnight Clique, the infamous Baltimore dirt bike riders who rule the summertime streets. When Midnight’s leader, Blax (Meek Mill), takes Mouse under his wing, Mouse soon finds himself torn between the straight-and-narrow and a road filled with fast money and violence. The film is executive produced by Jada Pinkett Smith (Hala, The Karate Kid), Will Smith (The Karate Kid, Bad Boys For Life), and James Lassiter (The Karate Kid, Hala, Bad Boys for Life).
October 11 – STARZ’s THE SPANISH PRINCESS *Part 2 Premiere*
  • THE SPANISH PRINCESS continues the story of Queen Catherine and Henry VIII, who preside over the most glamorous court in Europe and are beloved by their people. Together they create an England that is proud, confident, and strong enough to withstand threat from abroad. Charlotte Hope (THE ENGLISH GAME, GAME OF THRONES) and Ruairi O’Connor (DELICIOUS, Teen Spirit) reprise their roles as the ruling couple Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII. Other returning cast include Stephanie Levi-John (Diversion, Striking Out) as Catherine’s trusted confidante Lina de Cardonnes, Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia Trilogy) as Henry’s younger sister and Queen of Scotland Margaret (“Meg”) Tudor, and Laura Carmichael (DOWNTON ABBEY, A United Kingdom) as Margaret (“Maggie”) Pole.
October 16 – STAR TREK: DISCOVERY *Season 3 Premiere* (9 p.m. ET)
  • After following Commander Burnham into the wormhole in the second season finale, season 3 of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY finds the crew of the U.S.S Discovery landing in an unknown future far from the home they once knew. Now living in a time filled with uncertainty, the U.S.S Discovery crew, along with the help of some new friends, must work together to restore hope to the Federation. Season 3 cast members include Sonequa Martin-Green (THE WALKING DEAD), Doug Jones (The Shape of Water), Anthony Rapp (Rent: Live), Mary Wiseman (ROOM 104), Wilson Cruz (13 REASONS WHY), and David Ajala (SUPERGIRL). Also appearing this season are Blu del Barrio, Ian Alexander (THE OA), and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Crazy Rich Asians).
October 17 – HBO’s DAVID BYRNE’S AMERICAN UTOPIA *Special Event* (8 p.m. ET)
  • The Opening Night Film for the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival, HBO’s DAVID BYRNE’S AMERICAN UTOPIA brings the Talking Heads frontman’s critically acclaimed Broadway show to HBO in a one-of-a-kind film directed by Oscar and Emmy-winner Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing). Recorded during its late 2019 to early 2020 run at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre in New York City, Byrne is joined by an ensemble of 11 musicians, singers, and dancers from around the globe, inviting audiences into a joyous dream-world where human connection, self-evolution, and social justice are paramount. The special is described by The Globe and Mail as “a house party, then a science lesson, then a cultural essay, then a political protest. But always – always – with a fierce rhythm and energy unique to the 68-year-old, eternally impossible-to-classify Byrne.”

October 25 – HBO’s THE UNDOING *Limited Series Premiere* (9 p.m. ET)
  • From Emmy®, Academy Award®, and Golden Globe®-winning director Susanne Bier (Bird Box) and the Emmy-winning creator of HBO’s BIG LITTLE LIES, David E. Kelley, comes the six-part limited series, THE UNDOING. The series stars Emmy, Academy Award, and Golden Globe-winner Nicole Kidman (BIG LITTLE LIES, Bombshell) and Emmy nominee Hugh Grant (A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL, Love Actually). The limited series follows Grace and Jonathan Fraser (Kidman and Grant) who are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves. Overnight a chasm opens in their lives: a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child (Noah Jupe) and her family. Other cast members include Donald Sutherland (Citizen X), Edgar Ramirez (AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE, CARLOS), Noah Jupe (Honey Boy, A Quiet Place 2), Lily Rabe (AMERICAN HORROR STORY), Sophie Gråbøl  (GENTLEMAN JACK, FORTITUDE), and Ismael Cruz Córdova  (BERLIN STATION).
  HIGHLIGHTS October 2 – DOWNHILL *Movie Premiere*
  • Starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus (SEINFELD, VEEP) and Will Ferrell (Anchorman, Blades of Glory), DOWNHILL follows a family of four during a vacation in the Alps. A married couple is thrown into disarray as they are forced to re-evaluate their lives and how they feel about each other. The film is the English remake of the 2014 Swedish film, Force Majeure.

October 4 – SHOWTIME’s THE COMEDY STORE *Docu-series Premiere* (10 p.m. ET)
  • The documentary series THE COMEDY STORE brings to life the legends, heartbreak, and history created at The Comedy Store, which over the past 47 years has launched the careers of a breathtaking array of stars. The five-part docu-series is directed and executive produced by Mike Binder (The Upside of Anger, Reign Over Me), who started at the Store as a doorman before rising to main stage performer, and executive produced by Oscar-nominee and Emmy winner Mike Tollin (The Last Dance).
October 16 – CATS *Movie Premiere*
  • The 2019 musical CATS follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who must decide annually which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellicle life. The film has a star-studded cast including Taylor Swift (Valentine’s Day, The Lorax), Jennifer Hudson (Dream Girls, Sex and the City), James Corden (Into The Woods, Trolls) Jason Derulo (EMPIRE), Judi Dench (Skyfall), Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids), Idris Elba (Molly’s Game, LUTHER), and breakout star, Francesca Hayward.
October 23 – HBO’s HOW TO…WITH JOHN WILSON *Series Premiere* (11 p.m. ET)
  • Documentary filmmaker and self-described “anxious New Yorker” John Wilson serves as a writer, director, cameraman, producer, and narrator of this all-new six-episode docu-comedy, HOW TO…WITH JOHN WILSON. In a uniquely hilarious odyssey of self-discovery and cultural observation, Wilson covertly and obsessively films the lives of his fellow New Yorkers while attempting to give everyday advice on relatable topics. Building upon Wilson’s previously released “how-to” short films, the episodes take wildly unexpected turns but are grounded in Wilson’s refreshing honesty. The docu-series is executive produced by Canadian comic Nathan Fielder (NATHAN FOR YOU).
