TORONTO (June 13, 2022) – Recognized for exceptional achievements in electronic and digital journalism, Bell Media congratulates its team members on their 43 wins from the 2022 RTDNA National and Local News Awards. Announced Saturday evening by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), Bell Media won a total of 36 National and Local News awards. In addition, CTV NATIONAL NEWS Medical Correspondent Avis Favaro and Los Angeles Bureau Chief Tom Walters were each presented with an esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award, highlighting their exemplary service and contributions to journalism. The RTDNA also recognized current and former Bell Media employees with Regional Lifetime Achievement Awards, acknowledging their excellent work and dedication within their roles. The recipients include CTV Winnipeg General Manager Jeff Bollenbach (Prairie Region); retired CTV Windsor anchor Jim Crichton (Central Region); former Canada AM Production Manager Marie O’Neill (Central Region); and CTV London reporter Nick Paparella (Central Region). Additionally, CTV Winnipeg News Director Karen Mitchell was recognized with a Distinguished Service Award for her outstanding contributions to the continuing success of RTDNA Canada. “On behalf of everyone at CTV News, I extend my sincere congratulations to all of our nominees and winners,” said Michael Melling, Vice President, CTV News. “These honours are a testament to the exceptional storytelling and journalistic integrity upheld by this organization. These trusted Canadian journalists have served as true leaders throughout their careers, demonstrating remarkable skill and a longstanding commitment to excellence in our industry.” CTV News was recognized with numerous top National honours, including Overall Excellence in Digital for CTVNews.ca’s coverage of Federal Election 2021 and the COVID-19 pandemic; the Digital Breaking News award for coverage of the death of Prince Philip; and Best Feature News for a profile of Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon. The network’s multiplatform story “Canada’s Residential Schools: A Legacy of Trauma” was awarded with Best Continuing Coverage, and CTV’s W5 was honoured for Excellence in Sports Reporting for its profile of Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse. In the local news categories, CTV Vancouver received two awards, including Best Breaking News (Large Market) and Best TV Newscast (Large Market) for CTV NEWS AT SIX. CTV Atlantic was recognized with Best Breaking News (Small/Medium Market) and Excellence in Sports Reporting. CP24 was honoured with the National award for Best News App, and TSN’s coverage of the 2021 QUEEN’S PLATE earned a National win for Sports – Live Special Events.
