

DOCTOR WHO Takes Over Space Beginning August 20 with Three, All-New Specials Leading up to Season 8 Premiere

TORONTO (August 25, 2014) – It was a veritable genre convention on Canadian TV this weekend as viewers tuned into Space in record numbers. Saturday night’s highly-anticipated Season 8 premiere event of DOCTOR WHO featuring the debut of Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Time Lord, delivered 805,000 viewers, making it the #1 program of the day on all of television among the key A25-54 and A18-49 demos, and the most-watched Space episode this broadcast-year-to-date, reaching nearly 1.4 million viewers overall. Following DOCTOR WHO, the series premiere of body-snatcher drama INTRUDERS, starring Mira Sorvino, drew 224,000 total viewers, increasing the timeslot average by 37%. Between 8-11 p.m. ET, Space was the most watched channel for total viewers, A25-54 and A18-49 demos.
On Sunday night, the Michael Bay-produced military-thriller, THE LAST SHIP, starring Eric Dane, wrapped a spectacular inaugural season with 222,000 total viewers tuning in to the season finale. THE LAST SHIP is the #1 program on Space broadcast-year-to-date with an average audience of 374,000 viewers. All three, smash-hit series are available 24/7 at Space.ca.

On Twitter, #DoctorWho garnered more than 5,000 tweets on Saturday, creating an estimated 6.5 million estimated impressions on the social media platform in Canada. Throughout the day, multiple DOCTOR WHO-related topics appeared in the Top 10 trending list.
In the next episode of DOCTOR WHO, “Into the Dalek,” (premiering Saturday, Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. ET), a Dalek fleet surrounds a lone rebel ship, and only the Doctor can help them. With the Doctor facing his greatest enemy, he needs Clara by his side. Confronted with a decision that could change the Daleks forever he is forced to examine his conscience.
Following DOCTOR WHO, Episode 2 of INTRUDERS premieres at 10 p.m. ET. Jack (John Simm, DOCTOR WHO) desperately tries to find Amy (Mira Sorvino, Mighty Aphrodite) in Seattle but her movements offer more questions than answers. Madison (Millie Brown, ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND) finds herself in a train station with a ticket to Seattle, an envelope of cash, and a mysterious key. An act of humanity has serious consequences for Richard (James Frain, THE WHITE QUEEN).
