A Tag Team Mishap Ends with Jennifer Innis of Vernon, B.C. Being Sent Home from CTV’s MASTERCHEF CANADA

A tag team challenge involving the creation of a traditional English tea tray on tonight’s MASTERCHEF CANADA saw perpetual underdog Jennifer Innis (@JenniferInnis) from Vernon, B.C. eliminated by judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile. Jennifer was paired with David Jorge for the challenge, and despite getting off to a strong start the team ended up as the bottom two, and ultimately Jennifer was sent home. In the next episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA airing Sunday, May 3 at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. CT) on CTV and CTV GO, the Top 6 home cooks confront their most difficult team challenge, the Restaurant Takeover, when they cook at Oliver & Bonacini’s Canoe restaurant. In tonight’s episode, the remaining seven home cooks were asked to tackle their next Mystery Box Challenge alongside a special guest chef – judge Claudio Aprile. Provided with lamb, goat’s cheese, various fruits and vegetables, couscous, and pistachios, the home cooks were in awe of Claudio’s speed and precision, as well as the resulting delicious dish. For the home cooks, after the judges’ tasting it was revealed that Sabrina Poirier had won her first Mystery Box Challenge, besting two-time winner David Jorge. In the MASTERCHEF CANADA pantry, the judges unveiled the Elimination Challenge dish – a three-tier traditional English afternoon tea tray. In addition to being safe from elimination, Sabrina was given another advantage: the home cooks would have to work together in pairs in a Tag Team challenge and she would be choosing the teams. Sabrina strategically chose the home cooks who would have the most difficulty working together: David and Jennifer, Cody Karey and Line Pelletier, and Christopher Siu and Michael Motamedi. Although Cody and Line initially clashed, they quickly found a rhythm after some difficult compromises. Meanwhile, David and Jennifer fell behind despite Jennifer’s baking experience, putting the pressure on David to pick up the slack. After preparing perfect profiteroles, balanced raspberry tarts, and textbook coronation sandwiches, Cody and Line won the Elimination Challenge and were named Team Captains for the next Team Challenge. David and Jennifer’s delicious tarts with perfect pastry cream were not enough to save them from the bottom two, as judge Claudio discovered incomplete, empty profiteroles. In the end the judges made the difficult decision to send Jennifer home.
