First overall draft pick and World Juniors gold medallist McDavid leads a star-studded Team Canada that includes Corey Perry, Taylor Hall, Matt Duchene, Ryan O’Reilly, Brendan Gallagher, and Brad Marchand, along with defencemen Morgan Rielly and Ryan Murray. They face off against global hockey stars including Team USA’s Matthews, as well as Detroit Red Wings legend Pavel Datsyuk and Chicago Blackhawks young star Artemi Panarin, who return home to play for Russia. Laine suits up for Finland alongside Florida Panthers centre Aleksander Barkov.
At the 2015 IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic, Team Canada went undefeated on its way to its first gold medal in eight years. A record-breaking average audience of more than
1.5 million viewers watched Canada’s 6-1 victory over Russia on TSN, making it the most-watched Gold Medal Game in tournament history. As well,
10.5 million unique Canadian viewers – or nearly one-third of Canada’s population – tuned in to watch TSN’s expanded coverage of the 2015 IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
