BANFF, ALTA. (February 5, 2017) – Two-time World Champions Team Koe shut out two-time defending champions and Olympic gold medallists Team Jacobs in a stellar performance this afternoon at the
Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre in Banff, Alta to win their second career
PINTY’S ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME championship.
Alberta’s Team Koe, also featuring Marc Kennedy, Brent Laing, and Ben Hebert, took the victory after winning $42,000 in today’s final. Combined with the $17,500 won in yesterday’s semifinal, a $15,000 winner’s bonus, and a $1,000 draw to the button bonus, Team Koe claimed a total of $75,500 in prize money after this weekend’s
PINTY’S ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME. Overall, skip Kevin Koe’s TSN skins game career earnings now total an astounding $168,900.
Competing for their third straight
PINTY’S ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME title, Team Jacobs and his Northern Ontario rink, also featuring Ryan Fry, E.J. Harnden, and Ryan Harnden, secured a total of $12,500 in prize money after this afternoon’s game (see below for a breakdown of men’s results from this weekend).
Earlier today, Team Jones defeated Team Sweeting in the
PINTY’S ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME Women’s Final for her second straight championship, taking home $53,000 in prize money.
Draw Summary
Koe started strong, opening the draw with a steal in the 1st end, then forcing Jacobs to make a runback pick for a carry-over in the 2nd. With the last rock of the 3rd, Koe drew the lid to score two and increase his lead to $7,000. Koe scored another steal in the 4th when Jacobs attempted a soft tap back and couldn’t move it far enough. The final stone of the 5th went to a measurement, confirming Jacobs was too heavy on his draw, and the skin went for a carry-over. After Jacobs missed a runback with his last rock of the 6th, Koe was able to draw the full 8-foot for a skin and double his lead to $20,000. After the 7th end went for a carry-over, the championship was on the line in the 8th and final end, but Koe’s draw secured him a single point, resulting in a carry-over, setting the stage for a draw to the button for the title. Koe’s flawless throw secured the championship.
