BANFF, ALTA. (February 4, 2017) – In a matchup between the European newcomer versus the local favourite at the PINTY’S ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME, it was Alberta’s Team Sweeting who defeated Scotland’s Team Muirhead to advance to tomorrow’s women’s final. Making their third consecutive appearance in the PINTY’S ALL STAR CURLING SKINS GAME, Team Sweeting, which also features Lori Olson-Johns, Dana Ferguson, and Rachelle Brown, claimed victory in front of a packed house at the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre in Banff, Alta. after sweeping up a total of $19,500. Following today’s semifinal, skip Val Sweeting’s TSN skin games career earnings now total $61,000. Team Muirhead, also featuring Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, and Lauren Gray, took home a total of $1,500 in their first PINTY’S ALL STAR CURLING SKINS GAME appearance. Draw Summary After a carry-over in the opening end, Muirhead faced a number of Sweeting stones with the last rock of the 2nd. Muirhead attempted a long run-back of her own yellow, but drove it through, resulting in a stolen skin and a $2,000 lead for Sweeting. The teams split the 3rd and 4th ends, before Muirhead tried a tough-angled tick to get into the four-foot at the end of the 5th. The rock sailed through, resulting in Sweeting not having to throw her final stone to take the skin. A 6th end carry-over meant that with her final stone in the 7th, Sweeting could execute a quiet tap into the eight-foot to pick up the skin and $7,500, propelling her into Sunday’s final against Jones. The draw had been decided before the 8th end, when Sweeting delivered a draw to the button to add another $6,500 to her total. Final result: • Team Sweeting: $19,500 • Team Muirhead: $1,500 Team Sweeting advances to the Women’s Final tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 5) at 11 a.m. ET live on TSN.
