The Elimination Challenge Sends Another Competitor Home on MASTERCHEF CANADA

Following an Elimination Challenge presented by Season 3 winner Mary Berg, MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile revealed that Jorden Levin, a server from Winnipeg, Man. would be the third home cook to exit the competition. With nine home cooks now remaining, MASTERCHEF CANADA goes full throttle on Thursday, March 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV Go as the home cooks team up to create gourmet burgers and fries for a group of bikers. On this week’s episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the Top 10 were paired up and tasked with replicating a multi-layer birthday cake in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday. In a MASTERCHEF CANADA first, the five teams were blindfolded and given 10 minutes to taste each layer of cake and icing before having to replicate the cake. With only one hour to bake, the teams struggled to land on the right tastes and textures, with one of Barrie and Alisha’s layers having to be thrown away because it was under-cooked. After judging the birthday cakes on accuracy, flavour, structure, and presentation, the judges gave the victory to Justine and Matt. In the Elimination Challenge that followed, the home cooks received a surprise visit from MASTERCHEF CANADA Season 3 winner Mary Berg, who presented three of her favourite classic family dishes – tuna casserole, chicken pot pie, and traditional shepherd’s pie. Safe from elimination, Justine and Matt got to choose which dish the home cooks had to re-invent and elevate. Feeling it would be the biggest challenge for their fellow home cooks, they chose the tuna casserole. The judges felt Aaron, Alisha, and Mai made the best dishes of the night and were named as captains in the next Team Challenge. The dishes that failed to impress the judges were Trevor’s seared albacore tuna with habanero cream sauce, which the judges found to be too hot, and Jordan’s sparse deconstructed dish. In a surprise twist, the judges asked the home cooks who felt disappointed in their dishes to step forward to face the possibility of elimination. Both Trevor and Jordan made their way to front of the kitchen where the judges ultimately decided it was Jordan’s time to leave the competition. In the next all-new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, “Burgers For Bikers” (Thursday, March 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT), the remaining home cooks are divided into three teams and challenged to create gourmet burgers and fries for a group of hungry motorcycle enthusiasts. The team who does the most business at their booth is spared from a difficult pressure test featuring a classic French dessert. The remaining nine home cooks vying for the title of MASTERCHEF CANADA and the $100,000 cash prize are:

• Matt VanderHelm, a category manager, from Toronto, Ont.
• Miranda Wasstrom, a corporate safety administrator, from Edmonton, Alta.
• Thea VanHerwaarden, a broker, from Vancouver, B.C.
• Trevor Connie, a plumber/gas fitter, from Edmonton, Alta.
