The Movie Network, Movie Central and HBO Canada Home To Emmy®-Nominated Programming

TORONTO (July 18, 2013) – Bell Media’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) are proud to be the Canadian home of Emmy®-nominated HBO, Showtime and Cinemax programming. As was announced earlier today by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, HBO, Showtime and Cinemax programming carried by The Movie Network, Movie Central, and their multiplex channel HBO Canada has been nominated for 112 Primetime Emmy® Awards. The 65th PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS airs live, Sunday, September 22 exclusively on CTV.

 

HBO’s iconic epic-fantasy series GAME OF THRONES garnered 16 nominations, the most of any HBO program, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series (Peter Dinklage), Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series (Emilia Clarke), and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss). HBO comedies GIRLS and VEEP have also been nominated for a total of 10 Awards, including

Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series with nods for both Lena Dunham and Julia Louis Dreyfus.

HBO original films, documentaries and specials also garnered critical acclaim this year: BEHIND THE CANDELABRA received a total of 15 nominations, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie and Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries or A Movie (Michael Douglas and Matt Damon); ETHEL and MANHUNT: THE INSIDE STORY OF THE HUNT FOR BIN LADEN were both nominated for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special; and LOUIS C.K.: OH MY GOD was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special.

Highlights from Showtime include nominations in key acting categories including: NURSE JACKIE’s Edie Falco for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series and Merritt Wever as Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series; HOUSE OF LIES’ Don Cheadle for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series; EPISODES’ Matt LeBlanc for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series; and SHAMELESS’ Joan Cusack for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series.
