Applications for the new initiative open on March 2, 2022

Toronto, February 23, 2022 – The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) announced today the Executive Residency Program, a new initiative dedicated to providing executive-level access for industry professionals who are Black, Indigenous, or a person of colour to break down the barriers that currently exist for the next generation of creative executives and business leaders. Applications for the inaugural cohort will be accepted from Wednesday, March 2, 2022 to Friday, April 1, 2022 and can be submitted here. Beginning in the spring, this national program will match English-speaking and bilingual professionals working in the industry with high-level production, creative, and business executives. When submissions for the program open on March 2, applicants will be able to review the participating Vice-Presidents, Executive Producers, and Development and Production executives from Bell Media, CBC, and Boat Rocker before applying to the program which will offer in-depth access to the rooms and spaces in which decisions are made. The eight-month program will include job shadowing at an executive level, monthly meetings with the cohort led by the community partners, bi-weekly conversations with guest speakers, monthly stipends, and a complimentary two-year membership to the Canadian Academy with free access to year-round professional development events. “We are honoured to be working with this dedicated group of partners on this important program,” said Beth Janson, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “While our industry has taken some meaningful steps towards change, there is much more work to be done to be inclusive and welcoming of a variety of perspectives. Our hope is that this program will flip the script a bit by providing talented mid-career professionals with the profile, support and confidence to launch them into the next phase of their careers.” The Executive Residency Program is presented by our Supporting Partner Telefilm Canada; Collaborative Partners Bell Media, CBC, Comweb Foundation, Pinewood Toronto Studios, Canada Media Fund, and Boat Rocker; and Community Partners BIPOC TV & Film, The Black Academy, and imagineNATIVE. Following the closure of applications on April 1, 2022, the Canadian Academy along with the Advisory Committee and Advocates will begin the selection process to determine the participants. Between five and eight participants will be selected to join the inaugural cohort of the Executive Residency Program, which will be announced in June 2022.   Learn more about the Executive Residency Program here.
