This Week on W5: Exposing a Calgary Car Dealership Consignment Operation and Regulatory Inaction; Spotlighting Canadian Charity Three To Be and its Ongoing Fight Against Cerebral Palsy

CTVCTV2W5
– Last Saturday W5’s broadcast of PREMIER: THE UNSCRIPTED KATHLEEN WYNNE held court as the most-watched, non-sports program of the night –

Airdate: Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV GO, and CTVNews.ca Episode Description: W5 Senior Reporter Victor Malarek leads this week’s investigation into Treadz, a Calgary-based car dealership offering to sell vehicles on consignment. Malarek speaks to many of the dozens of unsuspecting victims, who offered their vehicles for sale through Treadz, but who were left without their cars, and  received none of the money the dealership collected from the sales. W5’s investigation reveals the criminal past of the dealership’s owner Sean O’Brien, including convictions for car theft dating back two decades. Malarek questions how O’Brien managed to get a license to sell cars from the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) – the organization tasked with regulating and licensing the car sales industry in the province. In the evening’s second story, W5’s Tom Kennedy introduces viewers to Dana and Jared Florence, Toronto parents of triplets Cole, Taylor, and Brody, who were born four months ahead of their due date. The difficult task of raising preemie triplets was compounded when all three children were diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of two. W5 takes viewers on an inspiring journey – beyond the day-to-day challenges and triumphs the Florence family faces – shining a spotlight on Three To Be, the charity they started that is creating hope for those living with the congenital disorder. From the first half-million dollars raised in 2010, donations have grown into the millions, enough to seed the funding of an entire lab for stem cell research at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. The episode follows on last week’s one-hour broadcast of PREMIER: THE UNSCRIPTED KATHLEEN WYNNE, which attracted nearly 1 million viewers on CTV and CTV2.
