KEY STORYLINE:
W5 Senior Reporter Victor Malarek delivers “THE CLAIM GAME”, via an undercover, hidden-camera investigation into bogus accident claims to provide rare insight into a problem resulting in higher auto insurance costs for all motorists.
For years, the auto insurance industry has been complaining that “no-fault” insurance, where few questions are asked in order to expedite claims, has been making it easy for the system to be cheated. In
W5’s “THE CLAIM GAME”, hidden cameras follow the course of a phony auto accident claim, as supposed victims are given advice on how to falsify their injuries and seek payouts for non-existent accidents.
The exclusive undercover video may answer the question why there are higher premiums to the tune of $100 per motorist, annually. The investigation provides video showing visits by two secret operatives to a Toronto chiropractor who, despite being told no injuries had been suffered in an auto accident, counsels the patient on what symptoms to claim. Subsequently, a receptionist is seen preparing forms to allow billing for non-existent treatments. And lastly, a paralegal in the same office building is secretly taped offering advice on how to obtain income replacement payments – again for non-existent injuries.
Also this week, CTV’s Health and Medical Expert, Dr. Marla Shapiro on special assignment for
W5 delivers “DESIRE DEFICIT”, an investigation of women’s sexual dysfunction. The report also looks into medication developed to increase women’s libido and explores whether there is a double standard when it comes to treating sexual dysfunction in women versus men.
Last week’s episode was
W5’s most-watched episode since November 2015, #1 among non-sports programming, and the second most-watched program on Saturday night. The episode featured Victor Malarek’s investigation into efforts by local residents to stop a contaminated soil dump site near a Vancouver Island watershed, and
