Michael Griffiths from Richmond Hill, Ont., is eliminated from the competition.
Following the final elimination challenge of the season, esteemed MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Claudio Aprile, and Alvin Leung revealed that Michael Griffiths, a mathematician from Richmond Hill, Ont., would be the next home cook eliminated from the competition in this week’s episode. On the Season 5 finale of MASTERCHEF CANADA, next Tuesday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. MT on CTV and CTV GO, the final two home cooks, Andy Hay, a small business owner from Dartmouth, N.S. and Beccy Stables, a tile setter assistant from Sherwood Park, Alta. go head-to-head with the hope of winning $100,000 and the life-changing title of MASTERCHEF CANADA. On tonight’s episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the Top 3 home cooks face off in the first-ever MASTERCHEF CANADA Pop-Up Restaurant Challenge, each with distinct branding: Andy’s Halifax Hawker House, Beccy’s U.K. Gastro Pub, and Michael’s Canadian Comfort Lodge. With only 90 minutes to plan, prep, and present their entrées, the pressure was on. The judges then revealed 30 of Canada’s top food bloggers and influencers have been invited to dine at the Pop-Up Restaurants. Beccy delivered a perfectly cooked, elegantly plated and skillfully prepared dish, and was declared the winner of MASTERCHEF CANADA’s first Pop-Up Challenge – earning a Top 2 spot in the Season 5 finale. . Andy created an excellent halibut ceviche, but his caramelized kimchi missed the mark. Michael G. showed improvement in his plating skills and depth of flavour, but the lamb he prepared were inconsistently cooked.. Due to their weak dishes, they were forced to compete against one another in the final Pressure Test of the season for a spot in the finale. In the Pressure Test that followed, the two home cooks had to prepare exact replications of three elevated Canadian inspired desserts: a deconstructed Nanaimo bar, a sophisticated butter tart and an updated blueberry grunt. After a photo finish race, the judges delivered their results and declared Andy the winner. The finest details and smallest mistakes separated the two home cooks and sent Michael G. home.
