TORONTO (April 8, 2015) – The selection committee for the BIOSTEEL ALL-CANADIAN BASKETBALL GAME today announced the coaches who will lead each team when the inaugural edition of the game tips off on Tuesday, April 14. Top Canadian high school basketball coaches Gus Gymnopoulos and Paul Melnik lead Team Red and Team White in this new showcase event taking place at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre, spotlighting the next generation of Canadian basketball stars. Gymnopoulos is the Head Coach of the senior basketball team at Vaughan Secondary School, where he coached Minnesota Timberwolves’ forward Andrew Wiggins. During his tenure, Gymnopoulos’ teams have won seven consecutive York Region Championships as well as five OFSAA medals, including back-to-back Quad-A gold medals. Melnik, the Boys’ Basketball Head Coach & Assistant Athletic Director at Toronto’s Father Henry Carr Catholic School, was the high school coach of Milwaukee Bucks’ guard Tyler Ennis. Under Melnik’s direction, the school has won five consecutive TDCAA Quad-A championships. Also, Melnik was named the Toronto Sun Coach of the Year in 2002. The roster for the BIOSTEEL ALL-CANADIAN BASKETBALL GAME features the Top 24 high school basketball players from across the country. TSN will broadcast the BIOSTEEL ALL-CANADIAN BASKETBALL GAME on Tuesday, April 14 at approximately 10 p.m. ET, immediately following the Toronto Raptors’ game against the Boston Celtics. TSN’s broadcast team features award-winning play-by-play commentator Dan Shulman, who has delivered the call for ESPN’s live coverage of NCAA basketball since 2001, and this week handled play-by-play duties for the NCAA® MARCH MADNESS® national championship game, which attracted a record audience on TSN. The network’s coverage of the BIOSTEEL ALL-CANADIAN BASKETBALL GAME also features host Kate Beirness and NBA ON TSN analyst Leo Rautins, a member of the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.
