TORONTO (February 8, 2013) – TSN joins the conversation on mental health with the emotional original documentary TALK TO ME: THE STORY OF JAMES PATRICK PEEK produced in support of the third annual nationwide Bell Let’s Talk Day on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

In TALK TO ME, Gemini Award-winning TSN Field Producer Mike Farrell sits down with his best friend’s family to talk about the loss of their son and brother to suicide, and how sport helped them cope and inspire change in their community. The visceral 30-minute documentary premieres Monday, Feb. 11 at 8:30 p.m. ET on TSN and TSN Mobile TV. The special will receive its primetime conventional broadcast premiere on Bell Let’s Talk Day, Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two (see broadcast schedule below for list of additional encore presentations).

Farrell reverses roles in TALK TO ME, stepping in front of the camera and narrating the story behind the James Peek Memorial Classic – an annual golf tournament held in honour of Farrell’s best friend’s older brother, James, who suffered from depression and took his own life at 17 years of age. With close to $300,000 raised over 13 years of hosting the James Peek Memorial Classic, the family has funded several local mental health care programs, including a clinic named in memory of their son and brother. TALK TO ME features two young people who credit these programs with turning their lives around, including James’ younger sister Michelle.

Michelle reflects on the loss of her brother and the impact it had on her family in a personal article published on TSN.ca on Monday, Feb. 11. The website will also feature additional content from the documentary, including an emotional speech given by James’ father at the last James Peek Memorial Classic.
