TORONTO – TSN kicked off the 2015 MLS season with a record audience tuning in to Saturday’s matchup between Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Toronto FC. Overnight data from Numeris (BBM Canada) confirms an average audience of
353,000 viewers tuned in to see the all-Canadian matchup, making it the most-watched MLS game in TSN history.
Overall,
1.9 million unique viewers tuned in to MLS ON TSN to watch some or all of the network’s exclusive coverage of the game, which featured the return of a strong Whitecaps FC squad and the debut of a revamped Toronto FC team, featuring prized off-season signings Jozy Altidore, who scored twice, and Sebastian Giovinco, who provided an assist on Altidore’s opening goal, in TFC’s 3-1 victory at a sold out BC Place in Vancouver.

Soccer on Bell Media
TSN and RDS are the
official broadcasters of Major League Soccer in Canada, with coverage of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Toronto FC, and Montreal Impact as well as the MLS CUP PLAYOFFS, MLS CUP 2015, and the 2015 AT&T MLS ALL-STAR GAME.
In addition to its MLS package, Bell Media’s CTV, TSN, and RDS own exclusive Canadian media rights to the FIFA World Cup™ package from 2015-2026, which includes the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP CANADA 2015™, 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA™, 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR™, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, as well as a slate of additional FIFA tournaments and exclusive broadcast rights to EURO 2016.
Through a new
multi-year broadcast rights agreement with UEFA announced in December 2014, TSN and RDS are the primary Canadian broadcasters of the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE beginning in 2015. The agreement will see TSN broadcast more than 190+ games, including up to 16 group stage games weekly, extensive coverage of the knockout phase, as well as the UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL and the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL. RDS will deliver live coverage of three of the leagues’ best matches each week.
TSN and RDS also hold a multi-year broadcast agreement with BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE that gives the networks Canadian media rights to half of all games through to the 2015-2016 season.
