TV’s Most Anticipated New Drama is Finally Here: THE FOLLOWING Garners Critical Acclaim in Anticipation of Super-Simulcast Prem

TORONTO (January 16, 2013) – As the buzz and critical acclaim continues to build for TV’s most-anticipated new mid-season series, CTV announced today it will broadcast the series premiere of THE FOLLOWING together with CTV Two, creating a one-time-only super-simulcast for the riveting psychological thriller. Setting the series up for maximum exposure, THE FOLLOWING premieres on Monday, Jan. 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV Two. After its debut, THE FOLLOWING settles into its regular CTV timeslot on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Jan. 28. Encore presentations of THE FOLLOWING also air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, beginning Jan. 27 on SPACE.
Immediately following its debut, the behind-the-scenes special INSIDE THE FOLLOWING will be made available for Canadians exclusively across CTV’s digital platforms on CTV.ca, the CTV App, CTV Mobile available on Bell Mobile TV, and through video on demand partners. The 20-minute online special features commentary from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson, executive producer/director Marcos Siega, and cast members Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Shawn Ashmore, Natalie Zea, and Annie Parisse. Cast and crew discuss the look and feel of the series – including its cinematic appeal, the series’ love triangle and story progression, what it was like working with real-life FBI consultants, and more.

The intense spellbinding drama stars Golden Globe®-winning actor Kevin Bacon (X-Men, Frost/Nixon) in his headlining broadcast television debut. From creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, Dawson’s Creek, Scream franchise), THE FOLLOWING also stars James Purefoy (ROME, John Carter) and B.C.-native Shawn Ashmore (X-Men franchise).
In the super-simulcast premiere (Monday, Jan. 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV Two), notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree with his murders inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. The FBI calls former agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon), a psychologically scarred veteran who captured Carroll nine years earlier, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on a college campus where he taught literature. The intense, spellbinding drama follows Hardy and the FBI team, including sharp upstart Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore), as they are challenged by the ever-growing web of murder around them, masterminded by the diabolical Carroll (who’s writing a novel with Hardy as his protagonist). Hardy will not only get a second chance to capture Carroll, but another shot at redemption, as he’s faced with not one but an entire cult of serial killers.
