TORONTO (November xx, 2013) – Long after the glitter dust has settled, Bravo clears the air about one of the most notoriously extravagant, and often misunderstood, cultural eras with the world television premiere of the critically-acclaimed THE SECRET DISCO REVOLUTION, Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 9 p.m. ET. Combining interviews, rarely seen footage and a narrative delivered by The Masterminds, a sparkly trio who wave their hands over a disco ball as they plot the liberation of America’s underclass, this 90-minute documentary not only covers disco’s evolution, but also the revolutions among the LGBT community, women, and races. THE SECRET DISCO REVOLUTION boasts an impressive list of interviews with disco gods including The Village People, Gloria Gaynor, Kool and the Gang, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Trammps, and insiders like Studio 54 Publicist Carmen D’Alessio, Casablanca Records VP Larry Harris, New York City’s Village Voice’s Michael Musto, and Rolling Stone Magazine’s Vince Aletti.

As an era long dismissed as a decade that conscience forgot; a time of sex, drugs, white-collar crime, and emasculated soul music, the disco era has in fact been gravely misunderstood. THE SECRET DISCO REVOLUTION compares revisionist disco theories from authors Professor Alice Echols (Hot Stuff: Disco and the Re-making of American Culture) and Peter Shapiro (Turn The Beat Around: The Secret History of Disco), with revealing new interviews with the era’s biggest celebrities. Throughout the documentary, viewers can boogie along to the most iconic songs of a generation, featuring classics such as “Y.M.C.A.,” “I Will Survive,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Stayin’ Alive,” and “It’s Raining Men”.
Debuting at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, THE SECRET DISCO REVOLUTION also screened at film festivals across the world including Rotterdam, Stockholm, and London. THE SECRET DISCO REVOLUTION is written, produced, and directed by Jamie Kastner and edited by Greg West. Produced and developed in association with Bravo, the film is presented by Telefilm Canada and the Rogers Group of Funds through the Theatrical Documentary Program in Association with Bell Media, and is a Cave 7 production.
