TORONTO (September 28, 2021)W5, Canada’s most-watched documentary series and North America’s longest-running investigative series, launches its 56th season of informing and educating Canadian viewers, beginning Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, CTVNews.ca, and the CTV and CTV news apps. The Canadian Screen Award-winning series returns this week with an exclusive television interview with the truck driver convicted of causing the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in April 2018. Jaskirat Singh Sidhu and his wife Tanvir Mann sit down with W5 Host and Managing Editor Avery Haines in W5’s season launch episode “The Humboldt Driver”, to share their stories of grief, guilt, and forgiveness, revealing new details of a powerful relationship that has developed between one of the Humboldt family victims and the man who caused their son’s death. The W5 investigation uncovers alarming and potentially deadly flaws in the trucking industry’s training system, which was supposed to be designed to prevent another disaster on the roads. Also this week, CTV’s Chief News Anchor and Senior Editor Lisa LaFlamme reports “Escape From Kabul” – the compelling story of the chaotic mission taken on by a group of volunteer Canadian veterans to evacuate Afghan citizens, after the country was taken over by the Taliban last month. The documentary also focuses on Roya Shams, an Afghan-Canadian living in Ottawa, and her combination of determination and fear while trying to bring her family to safety in Canada. W5 is powered by a team of CTV News investigative journalists, led by Host and Managing Editor Avery Haines; CTV’s Chief News Anchor and Senior Editor Lisa LaFlamme; CTV NATIONAL NEWS Weekend Anchor Sandie Rinaldo; Investigative Correspondent Molly Thomas; as well as contributions from CTV News correspondents on special assignment. In addition to airing Saturdays at 7 p.m. ET/PT beginning Saturday, Oct. 2 on CTV, W5 also airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CTV2, as well as Sundays on CTV News Channel (see local listings). W5 is also available on demand at CTVNews.ca/W5, and on the CTV and CTV News apps. With an ongoing commitment to covering tough, relevant stories with fair and responsible reporting, W5 is in its 56th season of delivering investigative journalism to Canadian viewers.
