TORONTO (April 24, 2014)W5 closes out its powerful season as Canada’s most-watched, non-sports Saturday night program with a special one-hour in-depth look into one of the most violent armoured truck robberies in Canadian history. Premiering Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV GO, and also available on-demand on CTV News GO, W5 host and chief correspondent Lloyd Robertson delivers “ARMED AND DANGEROUS”, which follows the bizarre and gruesome case of 21-year-old Travis Baumgartner, an Alberta native and former armoured car guard who murdered three of his colleagues and critically injured a fourth in a robbery at the HUB Mall on the University of Alberta campus in June 2012.

The horrendous crime made national headlines and triggered an unprecedented investigation by Edmonton Police. More than 200 officers and a half dozen of the force’s top investigators worked the case. “ARMED AND DANGEROUS” retraces the events of the fatal night, with Robertson interviewing first responders on the scene, including EMS paramedics and Edmonton Police, family members of the victims, and Matt Schuman, the sole survivor of the attack. W5 also speaks with Baumgartner’s friends, who remain shocked by his crimes.

W5 takes viewers inside the night of the crime: a gruesome scene, a dramatic rescue, and a surprising arrest. W5 also seeks to uncover who is Travis Baumgartner and what led him to be a cold-blooded killer? What remains are questions of intent, and whether Baumgartner’s previous behaviour and mental state could have been viewed as red flags, and perhaps ultimately prevented the violent murder of three innocent people.

“ARMED AND DANGEROUS” is produced by Calgary’s Pyramid Productions, in association with CTV News’ W5. The production company previously produced critically acclaimed and highly-rated documentaries “ROAD TO MURDER” and “MURDER FOR LOVE” for W5.

W5 also repeats on CTV on Sundays at 4 p.m. ET, and can be seen on Investigation Discovery on Tuesdays at 11 p.m. ET, and Wednesdays 12 noon ET; on demand at CTVNews.ca/W5; the CTV GO App and CTV News GO App, the CTV Mobile channel on Bell Mobile TV, and through video on demand partners, such as Bell Fibe TV (visit CTV.ca for local listings). W5 is also simulcast in Toronto on CFRB NEWSTALK1010.
