TORONTO (February 18, 2014) – From superstar to living legend, HBO Canada presents TAKEDOWN: THE DNA OF GSP, a Canadian original documentary about MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre (GSP), premiering Saturday, May 10 on HBO Canada (time to be announced, please visit HBOCanada.com to confirm local broadcast times). The feature-length documentary gives Canadians intimate access to GSP, the reigning UFC welterweight champion and arguably one of Canada’s most well-known athletes. HBO Canada is a multiplex channel of Bell Media’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada).

TAKEDOWN: THE DNA OF GSP looks at the life and career of a renowned athlete and one of the world’s best MMA fighters. Growing up in Saint-Isidore, Québec and bullied at school, GSP learned karate to defend himself and never looked back. From winning the world championship at the age of 26, to suffering a potential career-ending knee injury, and winning an epic battle against Carlos Condit to defeating his long-time rival Nick Diaz, the documentary follows the UFC welterweight champion’s rise to stardom. The film also uses powerful animated sequences to reflect the enormous influence of Eastern philosophy on GSP, a true athlete, a master strategist, and a man who loves his sport.
Distributed in Canada by Remstar Films, TAKEDOWN: THE DNA OF GSP is directed by Peter Svatek (Hemoglobin) and Kris Manchester (creative director of Sid Lee Agency). Josette Gauthier (Stolen Babies, Stolen Lives), Richard Jean-Baptiste (Guantanamera Boxe), Bruno Ménard, and Peter Svaktek serve as producers. Emmy Award®-winning producer Neil Lucas (Sir David Attenborough’s LIFE and PLANET EARTH) joins the production team as a collaborator.
