About the show
Winning Best Picture at the 93rd OSCARS®, Chloé Zhao’s NOMADLAND is a portrait of itinerant lives on open roads across the American West. Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (played by Frances McDormand, who won Best Actress for her role in the film) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society, as a modern-day nomad. NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie, and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West. Earlier this year, Zhao made history at the 93rd OSCARS, becoming the first woman of colour to win best director for the film, and just the second woman to win the award.
