Host Shan Boodram had a simple yet poignant observation about the sexy singles who chose to participate in TEMPTATIONS UNDER THE SUN: CYPRUS.

“If you don't want to play games, then it's not really the show to be on,” said Boodram, summing it up succinctly.

An English spinoff of a hit Québec series, TEMPTATIONS UNDER THE SUN: CYPRUS is a Crave Original that premieres on Friday, Aug. 7. Guided by Boodram, who is a renowned sexologist, intimacy expert, and host of the “Lovers By Shan” podcast (available on iHeartRadio.com and the iHeartRadio Canada app), paired-up contestants face steamy challenges, wild parties, surprise arrivals, and heart-wrenching eliminations, all while earning valuable points that unlock major advantages.

The boldest and most magnetic duo will win $50,000 and be crowned “Canada’s Most Seductive Couple.” But that’s a non-binding title, which is one of the things Boodram appreciates most.

“I love the fact that the show didn't ask people to be inauthentic,” Boodram said. “Look, you're in your 20s, we know what it is, you want to explore. You're not looking for the person you want to marry right now. Statistically, we know that the age people get married is getting later and later, as people make other important life decisions before they decide who their life partner is. And so, I think that the show being mindful of that is huge progress, and it does alleviate a lot of the unrealistic expectations that we sometimes put on reality stars.”

She continued, “you wouldn’t want to force people to be in relationships that are genuinely not fulfilling or compatible. It's a very big difference between having a fiery, beautiful connection with somebody in a controlled environment that's designed to bring out the most flirty side of yourself, versus in the real world, where we have real stress. So I love the fact that this show was like, ‘we're here for a good time, not a long time.’ I'm sure some of the couples have kept in touch, and if they did, I'd be thrilled to hear their stories. But there was no pressure to do that. It was merely, be brave, be fearless, be bold, rejection's a part of it, have fun.”

Of course, for viewers, the fun of watching a series such as TEMPTATIONS UNDER THE SUN: CYPRUS is the opportunity to live vicariously.

“These people are extraordinary physical specimens, right?” Boodram said. “There’s not a hair or a body part out of place. They're just interesting to look at, in the same way that we look at athletes. And let's be clear about something: it is a skill to be able to put yourself out there, and try to do the most vulnerable thing in the world in front of millions of people.”

Boodram added that she spent some time studying “pickup artistry,” with a pickup coach, who had a very interesting perspective to share with her.

“He told me that he works with all kinds of people: Navy SEALs, police officers, people who travel to space, people who put their bodies on the line every day, in really extreme ways,” Boodram recalled. “And yet, almost all of them say, ‘I would rather do something incredibly dangerous than walk up to someone who I think is attractive, and ask them if they think I’m attractive.’ So there’s a lot of pressure on our participants, especially when viewers are hyper-analyzing every move they make, and looking for certain outcomes. So I commend the young people who put themselves forward, and everybody on the show. I really adored them.”

Finally, Boodram claims in one of the episodes of TEMPTATIONS UNDER THE SUN: CYPRUS that there is a health benefit to kissing. Was that merely showmanship, or is it true?

“Of course it’s true, bare minimum from a nervous-system reset,” she insisted. “You can go ahead and kiss your hand right now to test it out. It reassures you that there is safety around. It's a form of face yoga. You can actually burn a little bit of calories from kissing, especially if you're kissing with the body as well, the hips and the hands. It’s also good cardio, if you have to hold your breath for a long period of time. So we could go on about the health benefits of it, but I think by and large, we all should all be kissing a little longer.”

 	Filmmaker Eric Goode follows his first love – reptiles – into the dark and gonzo underworld of exotic animal smuggling. In this global network, everyone is chasing the ultimate prize, whether it be owning the rarest of species, claiming the biggest fortunes, or taking down the most elusive criminals. While Anna tries to outrun her demons, her focus turns to solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds, no matter who or what gets in her way. The 10-episode suspenseful new crime drama airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network, and streams Saturdays on Crave at 6 a.m. ET, beginning August 8.
 

August 10 – Crave Original MODERN WHORE *Documentary* *Canadian Title* 

 	The Crave Original documentary MODERN WHORE, which made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025 and took home two Canadian Screen Awards in 2026, explores identity, the stigma surrounding female pleasure, and the day-to-day realities of being an escort and exotic dancer. Executive produced by Sean Baker (ANORA) and directed by Nicole Bazuin, the film stars Toronto-based writer Andrea Werhun in an adaptation of her 2018 memoir of the same name.

TORONTO (Tuesday, August 4, 2026) – Bell Media extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lloyd Robertson, who passed away today at the age of 92. Robertson was a trusted and beloved broadcaster with CTV News for 35 years, becoming Chief Anchor and Senior Editor of CTV NATIONAL NEWS in 1984.

“Lloyd left an indelible mark on both CTV News and Canadian journalism,” said Richard Gray, VP News, Bell Media. “Throughout his illustrious career, he forged a genuine bond with viewers, becoming a reassuring voice while reporting on some of the biggest events happening across Canada and around the world. To those who worked alongside him, Lloyd was a valued mentor and friend. His enduring legacy continues through the standards and values he established at CTV News, and he will be deeply missed by all.”

A dependable daily presence for Canadians, Robertson was known for his signature sign-off at the end of each broadcast: “And that’s the kind of day it’s been.” One of the most accomplished journalists in North America, Robertson was a broadcaster for more than 60 years.

Robertson joined CTV in 1976 anchoring CTV NATIONAL NEWS until he signed off in 2011. He then co-hosted W5 for CTV News from 2011 to 2016. During his career, Robertson guided Canadians through some of the most significant events in history, including 9/11, the Quebec Referendum, 14 Canadian elections and numerous U.S. elections, the Gulf War, budget specials, political and economic summits, the 50th anniversary of D-Day, nine Olympic Games, royal weddings, Expo ‘86, openings of Parliament, state funerals, papal visits, and the Terry Fox Run.

In 1998, he became a Member of the Order of Canada, and in 2007 he was the first journalist inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.

Robertson began his broadcasting career in 1952 at CJCS radio in his hometown of Stratford, ON and then joined CJOY in Guelph in 1953. After moving into television in 1954 with CBC in Windsor, Robertson spent four years (1956-'60) in Winnipeg and two years in Ottawa (1960-'62). He went on to anchor CBC's national news from 1970 to 1976 before joining CTV News.

 	In his second HBO stand-up special, comedian, musician, and actor Whitmer Thomas digs into his small-town Alabama upbringing… and his ongoing quest to be cool. SAN DIEGO, CA (July 25, 2026) – Crave unveiled today a first look at its upcoming original series YAGA at San Diego Comic-Con, releasing the first official teaser and tease art following an AMC+ panel featuring Noah Reid, Clark Backo, and Kat Sandler. Set to premiere this October, the eight-episode, half-hour drama reimagines the myth of Baba Yaga as a contemporary mystery thriller set in a small coastal town.



Based on the hit play by showrunner and writer Kat Sandler, YAGA follows Rapp (Noah Reid), a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park (Hudson Williams). If Sheldon and Leonard from THE BIG BANG THEORY ever got a chance to watch the new spin-off STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE, what would they think of it?

“They would argue about it,” said Bill Prady, co-creator of both shows, during a recent press conference. “We talked about this. This is the kind of show that they would watch and argue about. I think they would like the science-fiction puzzle aspect of it. They would probably focus on the mythology of it.”

“But they'd pick it apart,” declared Chuck Lorre, also a co-creator of both shows.

Will the massive and intensely loyal fan base of THE BIG BANG THEORY “pick apart” STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE, or will they embrace it as part of their wider comedic family? The answer to that question will begin to reveal itself when the latter premieres, Thursday, July 23, on Crave.

Unlike THE BIG BANG THEORY and its first two spin-offs, YOUNG SHELDON and GEORGIE &amp; MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE, STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE does not follow a traditional sitcom format. It’s more of a sci-fi fantasy/comedy.

“Chuck (Lorre) actually made a joke really early on, that it was more DOCTOR WHO than WHO’S THE BOSS?, just to kind of distinguish the two genres a little more clearly,” said John Ross Bowie, who plays Barry Kripke, during a visit to Toronto for the Bell Media Upfront in June. “And he's absolutely right.”

The premise of STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE is that Sheldon and Leonard, who were played by Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki in THE BIG BANG THEORY, built a mysterious and powerful device that accidentally was damaged by comic-book store owner Stuart Bloom, played by Kevin Sussman. Thus, a “multiverse Armageddon” was created, and Stuart – essentially by default – is tasked with fixing everything.

"What's your plan?" asks Denise, played by Lauren Lapkus, in the first episode.

“I don't really have one,” Stuart replies honestly. “I'm kind of new to the action genre."

So is everyone involved.

“We've heard people say many, many times that THE BIG BANG THEORY is now a comfort show – you know, 'we have it on in the background,’ ” Sussman said. “But STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE does not seem like the type of show that will lull you to sleep.”

“Well, if you watch it enough times … ” said Lapkus, prompting laughter from her castmates.

Bowie observed, “there's a lot of pyro in that first episode. I'm going to say, there's more pyro in the first episode of this show than there was in 12 seasons of THE BIG BANG THEORY. I say that with a lot of confidence. So yeah, it's an abrupt departure, but I think that's also really exciting, and kind of unprecedented.”

Indeed, STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE is an “abrupt departure” stylistically, but there’s one simple concept that links everything, according to Lorre.

“As far as the melding of (sci-fi) with comedy is concerned, something's funny or it's not,” Lorre said. “All the special effects and computer graphics cannot make something funny that's not funny. So we just had to remain honest with ourselves as we wrote these things that we were telling the truth. We think this is truly funny. We hope you agree.”

And with that concept in mind, viewers don’t necessarily need to be hardcore devotees of THE BIG BANG THEORY to follow STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE. The general plot structure of the latter becomes quite obvious right away.

As Lorre put it, “hopefully if you see a post-apocalyptic nightmare landscape, and there's a functioning comic-book store in it, that's still funny, whether or not you watch THE BIG BANG THEORY.”

As for the unique title of the series, co-creator Zak Penn acknowledged that a few other options were considered, but STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE “sounded right.”

“And it’s literal if you watch the show,” said Brian Posehn, who plays Bert.

“Yeah, it's kind of wonderful to title the show with the spoiler,” Lorre agreed.

To which Bowie added, “Death of a Salesman works the same way.”
