In last night’s (Aug. 22) episode of
THE AMAZING RACE CANADA, all five teams raced to Panama City. Once they arrived, teams made their way to Biomuso, designed by the Canadian Architect, Frank Gehry. They then searched the museum for a white wolf to locate their next clue.
After making their way to Paseo Esteban Huertas, teams were faced with a Roadblock, where one team member had to select one of six Molas – an elaborate embroidered panel of a Kuna woman’s traditional blouse – and memorize the design. Then, Racers searched the Casco Viejo neighbourhood, and the many women wearing similar Molas, to find their match. Once they had correctly identified their match, they received their next clue. Karen struggled to locate the women and debated taking a penalty, but after reading her clue more carefully, she realized she needed to go into the centre of town, where she found her matching Mola and received her next clue.
Teams then had to select one of two Detours – “Up For a Drink” or “Down For the Count.” In “Up For a Drink,” teams tasted five specifically flavoured local craft beers, and chose from a selection of flavour labeled coasters that matched their beer. Once they successfully matched the correct flavours, Racers received their next clue. “Down For the Count” required teams to learn a series of six different boxing combinations. Once they each knocked out the six combinations perfectly, they received their next clue. Sam and Paul, Kenneth and Ryan, and Adam and Andrea, all rushed to the “Up For a Drink” Detour, but couldn’t distinguish the flavours of each beer, and all switched Detours. Korey and Ivana found their confidence while boxing, and left the Detour first.
Teams then made their way to the Sport Complex, where they joined the Banda de musica Virgilio Escala del Colegio Pedro Pablo Sanchez, a high school marching band. Teams had to observe the drum Marjoette’s routine, and when they felt ready, they joined her in leading the band. Once the Bandmaster was satisfied with their task, teams received their next clue. Sam and Paul successfully led the band on their first attempt, and were the first to leave, closely followed by Korey and Ivana. Meanwhile, Adam and Andrea couldn’t find their rhythm and were the last to leave.
Racers were then given a photograph of one of two matching colourful Panama signs. Teams used this photo to find Host Jon Montgomery at the Pit Stop. Korey and Ivana ended up at the wrong sign and lost out on a first place finish on this leg. After arriving to the correct sign first, dating couple Sam and Paul won this leg of the Race and earned a trip for two to New Orleans. Karen and Bert made the same mistake as Korey and Ivana and ended up at the wrong sign, putting them in last place to arrive at the mat before Jon informed them it was a non-elimination leg and they were safe.
